GASTONIA, N.C. — The Kingsmen are safe and sound in North Carolina, fresh off of five games in Georgia that tested Prospect and Varsity alike to kick off the ABA spring season.
During the week, the Kingsmen prospect group won both of its games, defeating Wellington Sports Academy by two runs in each contest.
The Florida academy fell short five to three, then six to four in its two games against the Kingsmen.
The Prospect team’s last game was canceled due to rain.
On the varsity side of things, they were able to play all three of their games this week, thanks to some last minute adjustments. During the week, the varsity group went 1-2, beating Georgia Premier handily, but dropping one-run games to P27 and Eastern Carolina Academy.
The first loss saw the Kingsmen fail to plate the tying run from third in the game’s final inning, while their second came when the game was called prematurely by tournament officials shortly after they had lost their late lead.
Varsity’s second game was its best, running rampant on Georgia Premier’s pitching for 10 runs in the three run win. The Kingsmen scored 20 runs in their last two varsity games.
Georgia Premier soon has a chance for revenge, as the varsity team heads to Statesboro next week for three games on the road. Meanwhile, the prospect roster hosts PDG in what should be a thrilling three-game set.
