BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. — The Kingsmen bats soared to 27 runs on Wednesday for two emphatic victories over PDG Academy.
After a Tuesday opener that was down to the last inning, the Kingsmen were determined not to leave the results of Wednesday’s doubleheader up for grabs.
Over the course of the doubleheader, the hitters tallied innings of three, five and two innings of seven runs to flex their offensive muscles.
On the pitching side, Charlotte native Micah Irving threw six innings to prevent the door from ever opening in game one. The only run scored was unearned, and he struck out seven Generals hitters to only one walk.
Christian Burney hit a home run over the left field fence to wrap up game one with a mercy rule. It was the second home run of the spring for Burney.
In game two, PDG found a bit of life. The Generals took a three to one lead in the top of the third, their first lead since the seventh inning of game one. Despite that, the Kingsmen had answers. In all three innings that the visitors scored, the KBA swung back with a response.
In the sixth, PDG fought back for two runs to make it a three-run ballgame. In the bottom of the sixth? The Kingsmen put up seven, not only answering the call but ending the game altogether.
Now 5-0 in the ABA, the Kingsmen prospect team has the weekend off with a home series against Rays Collegiate next week.
Meanwhile in Georgia, the varsity team tips off a three-game series Thursday, with a single game against the Red Sox of Georgia Premier. Game one starts at two in the afternoon, with Max Raley the projected starter.
