Growing up in America, I have always wanted more than I deserved. Wanting new things or buying stuff that I know deep down I didn’t need. Being in the Dominican Republic has really opened my eyes to what I use been doing wrong. These kids who live here don’t have much if not anything. Especially at the orphanage, those kids had nothing but still they were so happy. Even having a single volleyball was enough to put a smile on their faces. It just shows me that having a relationship with Christ is so fulfilling to the point where it’s all you need. It made me look at my life and realize that I don’t need the newest thing or nicest thing to be happy. Baseball related, I’ve realized that these kids don’t have fancy facilities to use and the newest equipment, but they are still competitive and play very well. That made me realize that I twos a lot of stuff for granted such as having the newest bat and having access to batting cages and nice facilities to work out at. Seeing these kids made me realize how grateful I am to have a nice place to hit and play baseball. It also made me realize that a relationship with Christ is enough to fill your life and make you happy. I’m so grateful to have been on this trip because it opened my eyes to so many things that I would never have thought about.
